Even the worst of situations can be reformed.

One of the issues that tends to really affect the skin is when the temperatures become very low and the air is dry. This makes skin very dry.

It can crack, itch, and be extremely annoying. Why some individuals deal with this, it is hard to tell. But what is important is to know that there is something that can be done for this and that is to moisturize as much as possible.

Moisturizer keeps the skin moist. It gets in between the cracks and the gaps that form in the skin from the dry conditions.

This makes the skin look smoother, feel smoother, makes it feel better, and restores the skin's elasticity.

That way you don't feel like your skin is being stretched beyond its capabilities. When skin gets extremely dry, it can feel like someone is trying to stretch your skin into the next room.

The dryness can eventually become painful because the skin will crack and crack again in order to compensate for the lack of elasticity. And to think that all it takes is a simple moisturizer to take care of the problem makes one wonder why anyone would even suffer with this.

However, a simple lotion is not going to do the trick. What you want to do is use a cream or an ointment. These are thicker than your standard lotions and have more oil within them so that your skin is more protected. Thicker lotions will also last longer than thinner lotions, which means you do not have to reapply so much.

When buying a thicker lotion, you want to look for ingredi ents such as petrolatum, glycerin, wheat germ oil, lanolin, safflower seed oil, mineral oil, and jojoba. If you see these ingredients, then you know you have something that is going to protect your skin and not require a hundred applications each day.

Further in your quest to have healthier skin, make sure you use sunscreen when you are out in the sun.

There are a number of things that can happen to your skin when out in the sun. First of all, you can receive a sunburn that becomes very painful. Having a bad sunburn is no fun for the fact that you may not be able to sleep, stand for people to touch you, and even your clothes can be painful to wear. By using a sunscreen, you can keep this painful scenario from happening.

Protecting your skin against the sun also reduces your chances of skin cancer. The probability of skin cancer increases with the number of times you have been burned by the sun. When receiving a bad sunburn, you may notice that your skin becomes dry. But it doesn't just become dry during the time in which you have the sunburn. A person who is repeatedly exposed to the sun and burned may have dry skin issues for many years to come.

This is because the sun rids your skin of moisture.

If this sounds like you, it is important that you moisturize with a cream or ointment frequently and make sure you use a sunscreen every single time you are out in the sun. The sun is very strong nowadays, so it is something that you don't want to really get into a fight with.

And if your issue is dry hands and everything you try does no good at all, a good solution is to rub petroleum jelly on your hands and place cotton gloves on them overnight.

If your feet tend to get very dry, you can do the same. Just make sure you are wearing an old pair of socks.

You also want to make sure you make good use of gloves. For instance, you may find that washing the dishes really dries out your hands. If this is the case, make sure you wear rubber gloves when you do the dishes. You don't have to use your bare hands.

As for your face, the face has a tendency to become dry. Make sure you use a cleanser that doesn't dry your skin too much, but make sure it doesn't make your skin oily either.

Oily skin can lead to breakouts and breakouts are not pretty at all. In the winter time, it may be a good idea to only wash your face at night to remove any makeup and dirt that has accumulated through the day. And when you do wash, make sure it is warm water with a cool rinse. The warm water expands the pores so that you can wash your face with your moisturizing facial was. The cold water will restrict your pores so that they will hold in the moisture.

So you do not have to live with bad skin. There are some great things that you can do for yourself, such as moisturizing that can make an incredible difference.

All you have to do is moisturize, cleanse your skin, and you are on your way to having smooth skin that looks great. Who said you have to deal with dry, cracked skin or skin that you're afraid for everyone to see? No one did.
