While a great deal of focus is often spent on female infertility, males can also experience reproductive issues.
The medial definition of male infertility is the inability to conceive after having regular, unprotected intercourse for a period of a year or more.
The most common issues associated with male infertility include a decrease in number of sperm, a decreased quality of sperm or the lack of motility, or ability to move toward the egg for fertilization. Some of these medical issues may be treated, while others are not. There are generally not significant symptoms of male infertility, other than the inability to conceive over the period of a year.

Dietary Solutions
Many men have experienced improvements in fertility by making changes to their daily diets.
For example, some men experience a decrease in the production of sperm when they drink alcohol regularly. So in some cases, reducing daily alcohol intake can have a positive impact on sperm production.
Lifestyle Changes
In addition to eating a healthy diet, there are also some lifestyle changes that have shown a positive impact on a man's fertility.
One of the first things to consider is if a man is currently taking any prescription drugs. These drugs should be disclosed and discussed with the physician if there are any long term fertility issues noticeable.
A common change that produces positive results in men is the switch to looser under garments. Low sperm count can sometimes be attributed to increased body temperature, which can be escalated when the scrotum are held closely to the body with tight fitting underwear. Men who are experiencing fertility problems should also avoid long, hot baths or hot tub exposure.
Other environmental hazards should be avoided, such as smoking and recreational drug use, as both habits can negatively impact a man's fertility.
Vitamin Supplements
In addition to a healthy diet, many men often find benefit in adding nutritional supplements to their diets. Here are some of the vitamins that have shown particular benefit for men's fertility:
Vitamin C
This vitamin works to protect sperm against oxidative damage. It also works to reduce sperm agglutination, which describes when sperm stick together. When sperm stick together, male fertility can be decreased.
Zinc
When zinc is added to the daily diet, it can help to increase the number of sperm produced.
Arginine
This amino acid works to help a man's body to produce healthy sperm. While this phenomenon is still being studied and under some debate, the addition of this amino acid has proven to benefit many men suffering from issues with infertility.
Vitamin B12
This vitamin can only be obtained naturally when red meat is ingested. So, individuals who eat low volumes of red meat or who are vegetarians are often low in B12 unless they add a supplement to their daily diets. Men who are low in vitamin B12 often have decreased sperm counts, which is a contributing factor for infertility. Therefore, when this vitamin is added to their diets, they often experience an increase in sperm production and a decrease in infertility issues.
L Carnitine
This substance is required by the body for normal functioning, and in particular for the healthy production of sperm. So, when added to the diet in supplement form, it has shown benefit in the increase of male fertility.
Coenzyme Q10
This energy is used by the body in the production of energy. There is not an exact link to sperm that is well known, however, based on its role in increasing the body's energy, it is believed that sperm motility can be positively affected when this is added to the daily diet.
Vitamin E
When the body is low in Vitamin E, low sperm production and motility has been a side effect in some men. But, when men added vitamin E to their daily diet, they often experienced increases in fertility within a few months.
Calcium
While calcium is crucial for the body's optimal performance, it has shown a specific link to sperm motility. A deficiency in calcium has not been shown to directly cause infertility in men, but adding more to the daily diet has been shown to assist men who are currently experiencing infertility problems.
If after a year of trying to conceive, you are not pregnant, it is important to evaluate what the potential causes are for infertility.
Often, small changes in diet or lifestyle can make positive fertility changes. And, adding certain vitamins and minerals into the diet have been shown to positively impact fertility in men.
